Job Description
W2 Role - Power BI Developer (100% Remote)
Interview mode: Virtual
Job Description:
Overview
- Project goal: recreate an existing Salesforce-connected Power BI report to pull directly from ServiceNow so operational teams can self-serve ticket status without ITIL licenses.
- Primary data sources: Sonder -> ServiceNow (current), original report pulled from Salesforce ; no Sonder API in use today.
- Key requirements: ServiceNow + Power BI expertise; preserve existing form functionality (search by client, service line, case number) and logic (e.g., "Was the request completed successfully?" maps to closed completed vs closed rejected ).
- Constraints and timeline: original builders left and documentation is limited; resumes will appear in Beeline within ~24 hours and Speaker A will manage the process.
- Accessible Way to search information without providing access to the actual tools
- Salesforce who ticket is assigned to, volumes, the user, searching specific case numbers the whole idea o the report with salesforce is to mitigate emails on status updates for tickets. They want operational teams to be able to access those reports and find details they are needing on their tickets
- ServiceNow instance is who it is requested for with their people leaders. Unless you have an ITIL license. Operational teams do not have the ITIL license to they do need a dashboard where they can search within PowerBI.
- They need to have a lot of experience within PowerBI and ServiceNow
- They want to pull the data from ServiceNow to produce a PowerBI Dashboard
- Current PowerBI dashboards are pulling from Salesforce but want to use the ServiceNow Data.
- "How much of this project is net-new dashboard development versus reverse-engineering and recreating the existing Salesforce reporting logic in a ServiceNow environment?" There is an existing dashboard to pull from and will be utilized, but they will be doing some net new dashboard development for operational leaders to be used. They will be recreating the existing Salesforce reporting logic in their ServiceNow environment.
Data sources & architecture - Incoming requests originate in Sonder and translate into ServiceNow ; current visualization was wired to Salesforce instead of ServiceNow.
- The desired implementation is to pull data directly from ServiceNow (tables/APIs) into Power BI and keep the form UI equivalent to the existing one.
- There are ~3 years of ServiceNow data and the instance is broadly leveraged, but data is spread across multiple endpoints and modules.
- Some dashboards previously built by Mark may be partially reusable, but the complex original dashboard (the "monster") was set aside and likely requires reverse engineering .
- Next: validate ServiceNow table endpoints, API limits, and exact mappings for fields currently supplied by Salesforce/Sonder.
Technical requirements & constraints - Required skills: ServiceNow data modeling/APIs , Power BI dashboard development, and ability to handle complex historical datasets and advanced visualizations.
- Developer will need to investigate data structures and mappings because original authors are gone and documentation is limited.
- There is limited handholding: Manager will be available for technical questions, but developer should expect some independent discovery work.
- Next: produce a data-mapping plan and estimate effort for reverse engineering vs full rebuild.
